Time Management And Productivity…

Well, the snow is coming down outside (yep, and we have just gotten into February) - my kids have gone horse-riding and all is quiet - so I have just enough time for another useful post for you. This post is a pretty important one, at least it was a subject that I felt strongly about when I was learning Internet Marketing anyway… and here it is…

How long should you spend working daily?

But before we can answer that, we need to be totally sure of what work actually is! I personally can spend anything from 4-7 hours in front of my laptop per day – depending on what I’m working on, although these days a lot of the mundane tasks involved in I.M. are done for me by my small team of outsourced staff all over the world.

I remember when I was just starting out, I used to spend anything from 10-14 hours everyday quite literally glued to my computer. The problem was I was NOT actually working on growing my business. I was wasting my own time and burning myself out. It’s NOT good for you and you generally become unfocussed and distracted from your goal or task.

You should do at least 1 thing that is going to grow your business every day so you need to learn what jobs are productive and unproductive, and ONLY focus on the ones that will build your business and move it forward.

Here are a list of productive and unproductive tasks…

Productive:

Building A Website

Getting An Autoresponder

Writing A Salesletter

Setting Up Your Affiliate Programme

Unproductive:

Surfing The Web

Chatting On MSN

Reading eBooks To Gain Knowledege

So the moral of this post is – you need to learn the VALUE of your time in order to calculate how long you need to spend working and being productive.

  1. Nice post! :) I would like to add a few things: procrastination and prioritization. For efficiently using the time you have, you must set your list of priorities – I know it’s not a pleasant thing to do, but it helps a lot; you have a clear path forward and you don’t get stuck in chaotic moments. Procrastination is an enemy standing in front of productivity and efficiency. If you have something to do and you keep postponing it, it will just get worse and you’ll feel frustrated. So, no matter how boring something is, better do it nicely and you’ll feel better. You could work for 10 hours, feeling exhausted and with not so many results; or you could work for 6 hours, feeling relaxed and with a lot of results behind. It’s only a matter of perception and organization.
