  1. Hey Ray,

I posted on Sunday Aug. 1 which was way late for last weeks entry (sorry I didn’t know). I’m going to take a chance this week if it’s not a problem.

As I was saying on Sunday, I’m having problem getting my list to buy affiliate products from me. I’m not just spamming them with offer after offers, I give them the best content as I can all the time. My list is targeted and the love it, but when comes to promoting products as an affiliate, they are not that responsive. I have a problem with Figuring on what to give to my list so they will buy. They say the money is in the list but, not really unless you get them to trust you and want to buy from you. How can you do that? Please let me know. Don’t get me wrong, I love giving contents to my subscribers and do it all the time, but I don’t know what I’m doing to not get the results.

Another problem I have is how can I get affiliates to promote products for me. I don’t really know how to approach affiliates by email especially when they don’t know me. I’ve tried approaching few affiliates and JV’s but don’t get replies. Basically, I need help to recruit affiliates. I even give affiliates 100% but no replies. How can I make affiliates to say yes?

Thank You Ray For this Opportunity.

  2. 1. My greatest struggle is traffic generation and backlinking. Where do I find those legendary high PR backlinks? If I find them, how do I link my site?

Another problem is growing my list. It’s growing very slowly, and only with heavy forum and blog commenting activities. I would like to know a more hands off method for growing my list.

    2. I can’t write copy to save my life. I totally and completely suck at copywriting. That doesn’t mean I gave up on it but no matter what I do, my open rates remain very low and the traffic doesn’t stay for too long unless it’s a squeeze page.

    3. I believe the traffic generation and list building issues boil down to copywriting… That and I am not really good at videos. So video marketing is out of the question until I can afford to hire someone to to it for me.

  3. Hi Ray, I am really struggling to make a real break through online, I have had some moderate success but the break through really has alluded me I have produced two products in the past year in which I have provide amazing value. I have a list of 400+ which is not very responsive.

I give away huge amount of free content on my blog and via broadcast messages, these are always well received but seldom result in sales of other products as an affiliate (I do not spam them with offer after offer) I provide at least 5-6 lots of free content (often more) for every promo I do.

I would really like some advice on how I can make a break though, I know it s hard work at the start. I am not afraid of hard work!

    Cheers

  5. Thanks for your comments so far. A common theme seems to be lack of response to affiliate promotions. I’ve looked around a few other marketers’ blogs recently and there’s certainly more people complaining about unresponsive lists than there were even 6 months ago.
Let me introduce a note of controversy here – I was saving this up for a blog post, but here is as good a place as any:
I personally am not a fan of the standard IM model:
    1. Build a list via free giveaway on squeeze page
    2. Set up autoresponders with free content
    3. Send out affiliate promo every 5/6 emails
    4. Create own product
    5. Find JV partners to promote
I think that model probably worked pretty well back in 2005; I don’t think it works that great today, especially if you are just starting. Too many people with too many lists and too many products and…..too many freebie seekers out there who have no intention of EVER spending any money.
I’m not saying that model is finished, but I think it certainly needs looking at and refining.
    Agree?
    Disagree?
Let’s have a real discussion about this.

  6. Leo – we’re doing a LOT of research into traffic generation and link building at the moment. In fact I have spent most of this morning getting about 30 PR5-PR9 backlinks to one of our sites. We should have some pretty exciting news soon about what works and what doesn’t. Re copywriting, I used to have the same problem. Before I joined forces with Ray I wrote a post about that on my own blog, you might find that info useful

  7. Hi Ray,

I face three kinds of challenges in my business, however I want to just focus on one now please.

I want to focus on writing quality content to give away to my list, in the form of a newsletter, giving them tips and tricks like yourself. That way I know I will generate trust as an authority figur, and, thus make sales.

I cannot write copy, due to severe dyslexia, even writing this, I am using spellcheck on Word to ensure good grammar.

I know a newsletter, giving away content, with affiliate links is a great way of marketing, as people grow to trust you.

Please help me with generating great content on the fly.

    Many Thanks,

  8. Hi Ray & Robert
Controversial comment from Rob about the standard IM business model. I think you’re bang on the money.
Can’t speak for anyone else, but from my own experience, any model is dead in the water when it becomes a standard.
At a slight tangent: a lot of us face the problem of trying to be all things to all people. It doesn’t work, because we all have things we’re good at and other stuff we hate.
Smart move you guys getting together. This is really just a comment on a comment, but it would be great to open up a discussion on the question of which forward for IM.
    Best

  10. My problem is that I want to create a better opt-in page for this niche but don’t know how to change it. I don’t think that the standard opt-in templates I see a lot for the IM niche would be right.

I don’t think that mine looks very professional. I thought about adding video on it as well but don’t know if I should use text with my voice or make one of myself saying something. Either way I don’t know how to make one. A demo would be so useful.

  11. Robert, I tend to agree with you, if you look in your inbox, every other mail is ‘my good friend has just given me this” etc. I think a lot of it may be down to adswaps etc, but I think it is just a bi-product of web 2.0 and the creation of social marketing and blogs. It has become so easy to create a site these days with blogs that there are more and more people trying to make money online.

Despite that, with regards to Kogs post, I do still feel that the best way to gain your list’s trust is by providing good content and not bombarding them with every offer of the day. It may take longer these days due to the amount of lists but it will happen. I also believe in success by association to gain credibility, interviewing or aligning yourself with a well known successful figure can work wonders for your own status.

My own problem tends to be regarding writing swipe emails for products for other marketers to promote. Do you write about yourself in the 1st or third person, do you just give the benefits as listed on the squeeze page. I do study other emails sent to me but when it comes to writing my own, my mind just goes blank for ideas.

Anyway Ray, thanks for the opportunity and I hope your son is recovering well.

    Many thanks

    Simon
