Football High’s & Lows & Internet Marketing…

Just a quickie…

Most of you if you are in the UK, will know that today was the Football/Soccer Champions League Semi’s between Liverpool FC and Chelsea at Anfield tonight… (and most of you in the UK will have heard the score!)

We were beating Chelsea 1-0 until the VERY LAST kick of the game, when one of our defenders, John Arne Riise, put the ball through his own net whilst trying to clear it from danger…

As I am an AVID Liverpool Fan, I am really cheesed off! I’m still shocked now to tell you the truth, it’s SO depressing! But what’s all this got to do with marketing? I hear you ask…

Well, there is a valuable lesson to be learned here, and that is that nothing in your business can or should be accomplished alone, you’ll need to build a solid team around you to move forward and grow from the first “whistle” to the last.

Whilst a good team ensures you hit the high’s in the long term, in the inevitable that something goes wrong along the way, you’ll need to maintain that team spirit and pull together until the storm is weathered. Never give up and keep on – keeping on. Battle through the low’s and build your business.

This is what seperates the real winners from the dreamers in internet marketing – no matter what products you sell or what niche you are in.

I have first hand experience of the twists and turns of business, I have achieved success offline and online, I have achieved failure offline and online - but I never gave up and now my online business runs like the football team that Liverpool should have been tonight!

Right, I’m off to drown my sorrows :(

As always, your comments are appreciated – and I promise I’ll try not to slur a few replies!

  1. Ray,

I share your disappointment. I went to the game and thought that we deserved to win. Even though I don’t rate Riise his error was just one of those things unfortunately. I thought Mascarano should have put the ball in row z seconds earlier. Instead he only managed to keep the ball in for Chelsea. Cech definitely kept them in with a shout with at least three quality saves while in contrast Reina had nothing to do apart from pick the ball out of his net from one of his own players.

Oh well, we’ll just have to do what we haven’t done in eight games at Stamford Bridge and that is score and hopefully after scoring go on and win the game.

    Regards

We share the same pain, what a GREAT comment you make… Riise I do rate, if only for his thunderous left boot, not for his haircut LOL ;)

Just one of those things as you say, I hope we do em at the Bridge – keep in touch and thanks for sharing your thoughts :)

  3. Hi Ray,

Unfortunately I didn’t watch the footie last night, but I do agree with your commetn regarding building a solid Team.
I was badly let down by a mentor I signed up with last year but, to cut a long story short, I gave hime the benefit of the doubt after all dust settled and now wer are JV partners (he’s still let me down, but not in the same way)… we’ve been putting our product together (it’s a CD), he’s been working on this since Dec 2007… now it’s almost done. The only thing is that I’ve not had an income since Dec 2007 and it has left me with a bit of a sour taste in my mouth.

It’s only the two of us just now, our team is not very strong and I feel that we would have done better and worked faster and smarter if we’d had a stronger (maybe even bigger) team.

  4. Hi Maddy

    Hope you are well :)

    Great point you raise there.

Mentor, shmentor… Makes no difference what you call yourself UNLESS you can deliver, and delivery in this situation is all about having a solid foundation of a well knit team behind your mentor – so they can focus on you and deliver the goods.

Seems like he did a “Liverpool” at your expense.

Not blowing my own trumpet Maddy, but take a peek here:

  7. I know how you feel Ray as I am a Liverpool fan from way back. That’s the thing about football, you can play a team off the park and still lose thanks to one mistake, or a bad referee.

It’s like life, you don’t always get what you deserve even though you try your best.

There’s still everything to play for as it’s only half-time. Up the Reds.

  8. Terry,

    Well said my friend.

It’s only half time and everything is to play for!

Regards and thanks for taking the time to post.
