Even though I have done website/product launches before, there was an extra “feel-good” factor about this one, as the site really is my first “tecchy” experience. Your subscriber list is the foundation of your online business.  Your goal is always to maximize the number of subscriptions you can get from your sales system.  Graphics, used correctly, can help you  increase your subscriber rate significantly…

The main method for gathering names and email information from your subscribers is the squeeze page.  Your squeeze page is the page you send your leads to where you can “squeeze” their information from them.  The better your squeeze page performs, the more subscribers you get.

Well placed and appropriate graphics used on your squeeze page can increase your subscriber rate.  I want to emphasize one point.  You will notice I said, well placed and appropriate graphics.  You only want graphic elements on your page if they are going to enhance your ability to get subscribers. 

Over doing graphics can be worse than not having any graphics at all.  Resist the urge to put every graphic you can think of on your page.  Only use the appropriate graphic elements that will provide results.  Which graphics should you use and where should you use them?

The first element is the header.  For the same reasons a header is important on your sales page, your header is important on your squeeze page.  It ties your squeeze page and your sales page together.  It also promotes your branding efforts.  A good header can grab your visitors attention.

A product graphic is always helpful in converting your visitors.  If you are giving away a free report, for example, a graphic of the report will increase your prospects chances of signing up.  People are visual.  They like to see what they are getting.

If you have a few bullet points to make on your squeeze page, they will be made more effective with large bullet point graphics.  A large graphic check mark next to each bullet point is often used.

The last element is your sign up box.  A good bold graphic, highlighting the sign up box can be the final nudge your visitor needs to get them to give up their email address.

Your list is your business.  Your squeeze page produces your list.  Graphics can play a significant part in improving your squeeze page results.  Anything that enhances your ability to grow your list will in essence grow your business.

TEST everything.  They test which headline works better.  They test which sub headline works better.  How many testimonials is optimum?  How many pay links is best, and on and on. 

One of the areas that is tested is color and overall theme.  There have been many tests that show certain color schemes work better than other color schemes.  Certain colors themselves work better than others and certain combination of colors work better than others.

The same can be tested for theme and layout.  You can have sales text on a page with one theme or layout, and have the exact same sales text with another theme or layout and you will find that one works better than the other. But how can you easily test something as complicated as the layout, color scheme and theme of a web page?  You would have to constantly build new web pages.

There is one fairly easy way to accomplish this type of testing without having to reinvent the wheel every time.  Use web templates.  They are quick to set up, they usually come in packs of layouts, colors and themes, and they are inexpensive.

A web template is a completely formatted web page with out the sales text.  You merely cut and paste your sales text into the page and you are done.  Web templates usually come in groups.  There will be one set of the same layout and theme but in different colors.  You can use this kind of template set to test which color combination works the best.

Load your text into one of the templates in the set, say the blue one, and upload it to your site.  Keep track of your traffic and sales to determine your conversion rate, your rate of sale.  After a period where you have recorded your daily conversions, you change the template.  You use one from the same set, only a different color.  Let’s say you use the red one this time.

Load your text into the red template and upload it to your site, just as you did the blue one.  Now do the same tracking.  You want to be able to compare the red one against the blue one.  After the same number of visitors view the red page as you had view the blue page, see which one produced the most sales, and therefore had the highest conversion rate.  Which ever one wins becomes you base web page, or in testing terms, becomes your control. 

You repeat the process until you work your way through the whole set of templates.  Always making the highest converting one your control.  At the end of this testing process you will have the template with the combination of colors that produces the best sales.

Once you determine the color that works best, then you can test one template set, against another different layout template.  If you find the red one had the best conversion, use the red one from another set of layouts against your red control.  Which ever one of those works the best becomes the best template set, or best layout to use.  Every time you beat one, your sales should get better and better.  In the end you should have been able to determine the very best template to maximize your sales.

Templates are a great way to test factors such as color and layout of your sales web site.  They are easy to use, and inexpensive to get.  By testing one against another you will be able to maximize your sales.  After all, that’s what it is all about.

People are visual.  They need to see something before they will buy.

Ebooks are no exception.  Even though an ebook is an electronic entity, a computer file that you can’t really hold in your hand you have to feed the visual hunger of your visitor. In order to make a sale you must create a visual representation of the ebook to satisfy the visual component of your prospective buyer’s mind. 

The visual satisfaction comes from being able to see a graphic of the ebook in the form of a book cover.  There are some variations, some are represented thicker, some thinner and reports may be represented as a thin plastic spiral bound pamphlet. How ever it is represented, the graphic is an exceptionally important part of your sales scheme.

The graphic representation of your ebook, also known as an ecover or an ebook cover must look professional.  It must not only portray you, the book seller, the internet marketer, as a professional business person, it also has to portray the ebook as a good quality product.

Because it is so important to your sale, the ebook cover is no place to skimp.  A poor rendition of your ebook cover will absolutely send the wrong message.  It will send the message that you are an amateur and will broadcast to your prospects that the ebook is not a good product.

None of those scenarios is a very good selling position to be in.  Your ebook cover should be well done, have a great graphic front, side and top cover.  The most effective ecovers are 3D portrayals of a book at an angle standing up. 

To produce that kind of graphic in a program like photoshop or any other graphic program is no small feat.  You have to really know what you are doing to get the right shape and angle representations.  You have to be quite a graphics expert to do it yourself. 

That is why I suggest you find a graphic design firm or designer to do it for you.  It is not expensive and will be worth every penny you spend on it. In addition, think about the hours and hours of frustration you can avoid by not doing it yourself.

I have advocated farming out your graphic work in terms of your web site unless you are very skilled graphically.  I feel the same about your ebook covers.  If you can find someone to do it all, so much the better.

Your ebook cover graphic is an important component in making your ebook sell. Without it, the ebook won’t sell. Keep in mind, not only does the quality of the graphic represent the quality of the ebook, it also represents the quality of you as the entrepreneur selling the book.  High quality graphics means high quality sales.

Web templates…

It has been shown when a prospective buyer clicks on your site, you have about 7 seconds to convince him or her to stay and browse your site.  If you have not captured their attention in those few seconds they are gone, never to return again. 

You have worked hard to get those prospective buyers to visit your site.  You may have spent days writing articles, getting backlinks, fine tuning your site to rank better, spent a lot of money on adwords and other advertising to get visitors to your site.  All that effort and money is completely wasted if your visitor clicks away.

Your visitor’s first impression determines whether they stay or click away.  Your site has to make a great impression in a split second.  Your headline is most responsible for that spit second decision.  How that headline is presented and how it fits into your page makes a big difference.  The proper layout of your web page and the proper headline work together to impact that spit second decision.

The question is, how do you create a web page that optimizes  the impact on your visitor? How can you create the proper relationship between graphics and text? How do you incorporate the proper design, proper graphics, at the right places and in the right amount?  How do you physically get that website created?

In order to get great looking sales pages that will immediately grab your visitors attention and keep their attention, you need good sales copy, but you also need the correct layout and the correct amount and use of graphics to highlight and draw attention to your selling points.  You have three choices on how you can do that. 

First choice, you can do it yourself. You can learn HTML, how to move and nest tables, how to use Java scripts, where to find good quality graphics, how to insert those graphics into your copy, determine the correct balance between graphics and text, decide exactly where each graphical component should go, work to resize or rework the graphics in Photoshop, you get the picture.  

The second choice is to hire a freelancer or a web design firm.  When you hire a freelancer, you never know what you are getting.  You won’t know that until you see his finished work. The other problem with a freelancer is he knows graphics and design, but he does not know  how to create an effective sales page.  You will get a pretty or cool looking site, but it won’t sell.  As far as hiring a firm,  the downside to that, it will cost you hundreds of dollars.

That leaves the third and in my opinion the best choice, web templates.  Web templates are pre-designed pages that only need to have your sales text added.  All the HTML coding, all of the layouts and graphical elements are already part of the page.  All you have to do is literally cut and paste your sales text into the page and you are done.

Don’t use any old template.  You have to use templates that are optimized for sales.  You should find a template source that was created by or with the assistance of someone who is internet sales trained.  Otherwise, as previously stated, you will have a pretty page that does not sell.

I know when I am looking for something to buy on eBay, I want as much information as I can get about the item I am looking to buy.  When I go to an auction and all that is on the page is the text description with some small pictures on the bottom, that doesn’t make me feel very secure in really knowing what I am getting. 

If I visit a site that has easy to read headlines, easy to read descriptions, specific areas where I can find the shipping information and an easy to read guarantee with pictures throughout the auction ad, so I don’t have to keep scrolling down to see the pictures, I feel much more inclined to buy.  An auction page that is laid out in an organized and easy to use manner makes it much easier for me to make a buying decision.

In order to get those great looking auction sales pages you have two choices.  You can learn HTML, how to imbed pictures, how to use tables, how to move and nest tables, how to use java scripts and how to keep your page updated.  Or… you can use an eBay template.

An eBay template is an auction page already programed and laid out for you.  The work is already done.  All you have to do is fill in the blanks, and put your picture locations into the template and you instantly have a great looking eBay auction that looks professional, that is easy to navigate, that clearly organizes and lays out the information that your customer wants to know.

With specialist design, as you might very well have guessed, there is far more than just meets the eye. For instance, it is important to know the the meanings of color when constructing customer orders. What colors are complementary and which ones symbolise a particular meaning?

For instance, the colour orange and the colour red are known as “warm” colours. Both of these colours are the colour most commonly associated with the element of fire. Although there are blue and green flames as well, the colours blue and green in graphic design, are known as cool colours because they are most commonly associated with water.

What type of feelings do you suppose the use of each of these colours create or evoke? Blue is the colour that is most trusted by customers and it’s use increases conversions at a higher percentage than the use of other colours when used on a salesletter salespage. You don’t want just plain print, but you do not want clutter either. The page needs to make good use of space and have a happy medium between too many images and not enough images to fully balance and complement the salesletter for maximum effectiveness.

It is also important to know the exact hues and shades of colours rather than just guessing. Did you know that the term when used by a graphic design firm, “colour saturation” or just “saturation” means the brilliance or actuality of the colour as it exists in its purest form? So the more saturated a color is, the more of its pure form is present without any black to darken it or change its shade.

The graphic header does not need to take up too much of the virtual real estate that could be used with the copy headline. If the customer or website visitor hhas to scroll down just to see the headline, then that means that the graphic header was too large and went outside of the box too much. This can be corrected by the firm when you bring it to their attention.

Also, the footer does not need to be overly ostentatious, but just enough to provide a good sense of closure and necessary details like copyright year, design firm name, etc.

The basic foundation or stepping stones of graphic design services are comprised of the use of white space, color, lines, textures and shapes. Once these core elements and their use together are mastered, then you know that the foundation of the graphic design firm or the person offering you the graphic design service is a professional.
