The winner of the Blog contest is: (this weeks post written by Robert)
Hey everyone
Ray’s let me pick this weeks’s Contest winner. And the winner is <drum roll please>:
…Paul Power
So congratulations to Paul – let us know whether you want the promotion to our 28k list, or one of our products as a prize.
The reason I picked Paul’s entry was because he asked the question “how do I generate great content on the fly?”
That is a great question and a very important one. Paul also mentions that he has dyslexia which makes it more difficult to write.
I won’t pretend to know what dyslexia is like so I’m not going to give any advice on that, apart from obviously using the spelling and grammar checkers built into programs such as MS Word or Open Office. I personally suffer from tinnitus so I would much rather read 4 or 5 pages of text than listen to a 20 minute audio or watch or a 20 minute video. As you will know if you look through this blog, Ray is a big fan of using video and audio – I am not.
I have never ever clicked on a video on a sales page, even though I may well have bought the product. I’d much rather read some text. The point is everyone is different and responds differently to various media.
Media content can be text, audio or video. So in Paul’s case you may well want to consider using audio or video as content,
since you don’t need to worry about making spelling mistakes. On a general level it is a good idea to mix up your content to
keep the reader’s interest going, and also to market to those people who don’t respond well to a certain type of media.
We don’t actually know what Paul’s site is about (and that’s given me a great idea for next week’s contest so make sure you don’t miss that) so the advice I’m going to give is more general. Every niche will of course be slightly different.
If your site is promoting an affiliate product then your first and main source of content should be the official web site of the product you are promoting.
Pick a benefit and expand on that, write a review about your own experiences. For further content write about the niche in general.
So if you are promoting a weight loss product, then have content specifically about that product as well as general weight loss tips.
The more you do this, the more you will be seen as an “authority” in your field.
The structure of your content should be something like this:
1. Attention grabbing headline – same as you would do for a headline in a sales letter
2. Around 400-600 words (you can go higher than this if you want)
3. Opening paragraph introducing the topic you are going to discuss
4. Closing paragraph summarizing what you have discussed
5. Make each paragraph 4-5 sentences
6. Consider using bulleted lists as well as blocks of text – lists are easier to read, those aren’t hard and fast rules, and I break them often myself, but they are a pretty good guide. Where to get ideas for content? The list is literally endless but here’s a few that I use to get you thinking…
1. Article sites such as Ezine Articles, Go Articles, Articles Base, etc – do a search for your keyword and read the articles that grab your attention. Use these for ideas for your own content – can you rewrite any of those articles, combine 4 articles into 1, change a text based article to a list based one? Can you take an article that’s unrelated to your niche and adapt it, e.g. your niche is cat training, can you adapt a dog training article? NEVER copy someone else’s article. Apart from the obvious reason, most articles even on Ezine Articles are badly written with grammatical errors and spelling mistakes. That’s because they have been outsourced to writers whose first language isn’t English.
2. Use material from resell rights products. Can you take a chapter, or even a few paragraphs from an ebook and rewrite that into a blog post? Of course you can! By the way if you don’t have any resell rights material for your particular niche then contact me.
3. News sources – pick an item in the news, doesn’t have to be a major news story. Can you relate that to your niche? “This happened today in Japan, that reminded me of the time…..”.
4. Do a keyword search on your niche in Google Blogs – see what others are writing about that subject. Has someone written a post you strongly disagree with? Then there’s some great content material right there, potential content is literally all around us, in fact there aren’t enough hours in the day to write all that content. You will never run out of ideas, if you open up your mind to what is out there. One final very important tip – rewrite your content slightly and submit that as an article to the main article directories. That will help both your search engine rankings (backlink to your site) and get you traffic. It only takes a few minutes to do, but if you do that every time you add content to your site you will soon see the results.
Thanks for taking part everyone, and please feel free to leave your comments!
